Coffee is much more then a drink to keep you going when pulling an all-nighter on a project at work. It's more then a healthy drink that fights various cancer and diseases. There is something inherently social about a cup of coffee- regardless of its form: latte, espresso, or just a regular cup.
Coffee brings people together in all situations. Cyclists are well known to meet at coffee shops for organized training rides- so well known that an out of town cyclist simply needs to fine the local coffee shop and they are bound to find out about the local rides. But don't think the cafe is just used as a meeting place, its a place to bond, to make friends, to plan, and to learn. I've discussed several business plans and made new friends over a few cups of coffee at the local cafe. You could argue that perhaps it is something about the cafe that makes people open up and come together, but I disagree.
Brew up a cup of coffee at your house in the morning when you have company and it is sure to bring them down around the kitchen table. Brew one up after dinner and they are sure to stick around just a little bit longer. So its not about the cafe, its about the drink itself. There is something inherent about sharing a warm cup of coffee with friends or business partners that leads to people bonding.
We've laughed until we've cried with our closest friends and talked about subjects that brought lumps to our throats- all over coffee. Perhaps, while the drink cools, it lends time to reflection. To look back on what we've done, where we are going, and who is coming with us. A cup of coffee with friends is a chance to enjoy friendship and life and its always good until the last drop.
