Acid Reflux as it is most commonly called is a condition that causes stomach acid to flow backwards up the esophagus. Over time this can cause extreme damage to esophagus. The reason for this is abnormal relaxation of the lower esophageal sphincter, which normally holds the top of the stomach closed. Diet can play a role in the development of this conditions. Eating a big meal causes excess stomach acid production. Foods that may trigger an attack include acidic fruit or juice, fatty foods, pretzels, coffee, tea, onions, peppermint, chocolate, or highly spiced foods, especially shortly before bedtime.
Coffee is listed due to the high amount of acid in regular coffee. However, given that our coffee has the lowest pH rating of any coffee that means it is safe for people who suffer from GERD to drink!
